Politician Venâncio Mondlane yesterday submitted an application to the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs to authorize the formation of his new party called "ANAMALALA".
"We came here, to the Ministry of Justice, to submit an application to set up a party called the National Alliance for a Free and Autonomous Mozambique. The acronym of this party is ANAMALALA," explained Dinis Tivane, Mondlane's press officer, after submitting the documentation.
According to Tivane, the expectation is that the state institution will postpone the document within the legal deadline of between 30 and 60 days.
"[We think that at that point] we can invite the press to announce that the party is already authorized by the public authorities to do its work," he said.
As he explained, the step taken yesterday dispels all doubts about Mondlane's political direction, including speculation about his possible return to a particular political party.
"[This act] dispels any information to the contrary, and this is the information. ANAMALA is already registered as a name, and now it needs to be registered as a political party," he said.
However, he clarified that Mondlane's support structure is aware of the poor performance of the Mozambican public administration, which could lead to an unfavorable decision on the application.
"But we believe that the wrong way of acting and proceeding in the public administration has ended with the past," he said, pointing to the commitment to new directions, such as the night-time meeting between the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, and the former presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, and this week's approval in parliament, definitively and by consensus, of the bill on the Political Commitment for an Inclusive National Dialogue.
