A group of unknown citizens set fire to a pick-up truck carrying staff and support material for the campaign of Venâncio Mondlane and the Podemos party.

The event took place in the early hours of this morning, around 3.40am, in the district of Mabote, in Inhambane province, according to Cremildo Chichongue, from the Podemos party in that part of the country.

Chichongue describes the attack as potentially deadly, but it didn't result in any human damage.

"Unfortunately, the fire destroyed everything, but thank God the car didn't burn down, as we managed to control the fire before it reached the fuel tank," he writes in the description of the incident shared on social media.

He said that if the fire had spread, in addition to the two vehicles in the motorcade, the rooms where the motorcade was staying would have been affected.

Despite the situation, Chichongue said that the campaign agenda for today will go ahead as planned.
