Venâncio Mondlane at the PGR with the pipe against Frelimo

Venâncio Mondlane na PGR com o cano contra Frelimo

The independent candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Venâncio Mondlane, will this afternoon submit a criminal complaint to the Attorney General's Office (PGR) against the country's largest party, Frelimo, for allegedly committing more than 40 electoral offenses.

"I have here a list of irregularities committed by the ruling party, Frelimo. There were more than 40 registered cases of illegalities, irregularities and even electoral irregularities, committed by this party, in an open, daring way, and so far there has been no prosecution, no charges have been brought against this party," he said, during an address to the nation.

It should be remembered that recently Venâncio Mondlane, whose candidacy is supported by the Podemos party, was summoned to appear before the PGR to make statements about the use of campaign music that undermines the good name of state institutions, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, the National Electoral Commission, and political parties.

Meanwhile, regarding his attack on Frelimo, Mondlane alluded to the attitude of the competent authorities in acting on electoral crimes, which do so against the opposition party at the earliest opportunity.

"But the party in power does and undoes as it pleases, by the way and without purpose," he criticized.

According to Venâncio Mondlane, the irregularities committed by Frelimo over 20 days of campaigning include the use of public goods and resources.

On the other hand, he acknowledged that the Podemos party had also committed electoral offenses, such as the case of a member who tore up a Frelimo party flag in Tete.

"We strongly condemn it. This young man was arrested, tried and sentenced to ten days in prison and to pay a fine of between ten and twenty minimum wages," he said.
