Venâncio Mondlane, the presidential candidate who is leading the biggest challenge to the election results in Mozambique since the first elections in the country, accused Albino Forquilha, president of PODEMOS, yesterday (04) of violating the pre-election agreement signed between the two by admitting that the deputies elected by the party will be sworn in on January 13..
In a statement released yesterday, Venâncio Mondlane accused the PODEMOS party and its president, Albino Forquilha, of violating the "Manhiça Agreement (coalition political agreement)", signed by the parties on August 21 and valid until 2028.
According to Mondlane, PODEMOS and its president "are not legitimate to take the decisions they are taking", because the agreement regulates several issues, including strategic decisions of the party, which are being disrespected at the moment by Albino Forquilha.
The same note also states that PODEMOS' support for Venâncio Mondlane is now in "crisis", due to the party deviating from the agreed objectives, especially in the fight against "mega electoral fraud" in the general elections.
Further on, the presidential candidate claims to have made "efforts" to persuade Forquilha to back down from decisions he considers politically irregular, such as the swearing-in of PODEMOS MPs, describing this attitude as an act that "deeply offends the morals, ethics and interests of the Mozambican people", who trusted in the alliance formed with PODEMOS.
