PODEMOS presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane called on Mozambicans this afternoon (24) not to vandalize public and private infrastructure in the new wave of protests that began yesterday. Mondlane was reacting on social media to the proclamation of the election results by the Constitutional Council, which gave victory to Frelimo and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, with 65,75% of the vote..
"Don't destroy commercial establishments, destroy public institutions, because we will need these infrastructures in our government. The destruction of property is not our focus," said the PODEMOS presidential candidate on his Facebook account, the day after the Constitutional Council announced the election results.
Venâncio Mondlane added that he was open to dialogue, but that it should be mediated by the international community.
Mondlane also called for the free movement of health personnel and paramedics during this wave of protests.
The proclamation of the election results by the Constitutional Council led to a wave of demonstrations all over the country, with reports so far of the destruction of several police stations, toll booths, commercial establishments and the closure of some roads.
