The post-election demonstrations led to the vandalization of more than half a million businesses and the complete destruction of at least ten industrial establishments in December 2024 alone.
The accounts were presented by the vice-president for Industry at the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA), Onório Manuel.
The acts of looting, pillaging and destruction have mostly taken place in the cities of Maputo and Matola, and have greatly affected the food sector. This, Manuel said, will compromise the normal functioning of companies.
According to the vice-president, Mozambique already has a small industrial base that is being destroyed. In the short term, he noted, this will lead to higher prices, increased job insecurity, a decline in the country's financial crisis and lower revenue for the state.
On the other hand, the CTA warns of a downturn in investment, as the country is losing its international appeal.
