On Thursday (18) in Maputo, the European Union (EU) announced funding of 5 million euros for the cultural and creative industries sector in Mozambique.
The amount comes to the country through the "Cultiv'arte" project, which aims to strengthen the national cultural sector by creating spaces for the social and economic development of art-makers, with an emphasis on young people and women.
Speaking at the ceremony to launch the initiative, the minister for culture and tourism, Eldevina Materula, said that this is the largest amount of funding that the European Union has ever allocated to the cultural sector and that it will be extremely important for boosting the national cultural and creative industry.
"It is the materialization of the response to the wishes of the culture sector and it is a response that has been worthwhile, the result of dialogue and effort with cooperation partners who are seeing and recognizing the importance of developing our sector," she said, quoted by the newspaper. The four-year project will be implemented throughout the country by the government, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and by the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center, Idea Lab and the Expertise France agency.
