Last minute: Adriano Nuvunga receives death threat

Social activist and academic Adriano Nuvunga suffered a death threat earlier today, symbolized by bullets found on the floor of the residence where he lives, writes Carta de Moçambique

According to information advanced by the portal, unknown individuals threw two projectiles into his backyard, later identified by agents of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) as AK 47-type ammunition.

Also according to the Letter, the act occurred in the early hours of today, Monday, August 15, at about 5:00 a.m. when the teacher was still asleep.

The projectiles were partially wrapped in white paper with writing not possible to decipher in full. One of the phrases reads "CAUTION NUVUNGA".

The source that we have been quoting, says that the occurrence was timely reported to the police authorities and expert teams from SERNIC went to the scene to collect the bullets and gather information relevant to the investigation in order to clarify the case.

The act is being interpreted within civil society organizations as a cowardly intimidation against social activism, freedom of expression, and democracy in Mozambique.

It should be noted that Adriano Nuvunga is a staunch critic of the government of the day. And this is not the first time he has received a death threat.
