Earlier this afternoon, a group of agents from the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) surrounded the residence of the president of the Democratic Alliance Coalition (CAD), Manecas Daniel. The group remained there until around 15:00.
Manecas Daniel is in an uncertain location, after constant threats, including death threats, from individuals who identify themselves as members of the UIR, a unit of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).
When these agents, also known as death squads, learned of Manecas Daniel's disappearance, they began to threaten his family, who are currently in a panic.
On the night of November 22, Manecas Daniel's sister was kidnapped to force her to reveal her brother's whereabouts. On the same day, heavily armed men, with covered faces and wearing civilian clothes, but identified as members of the UIR, broke into Manecas Daniel's house, interrogated his wife and confiscated all their cell phones.
CAD is the coalition that had its candidacy rejected by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and the Constitutional Council (CC), when the two bodies realized that it would be the platform that would support Venâncio Mondlane's candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic. Even after the candidacy was rejected, CAD and Manecas Daniel continued to support Venâncio Mondlane.
Manecas Daniel's family is panicking after this afternoon's siege. (Text CDD)
