UEM to suspend unattractive courses

UEM vai suspender cursos pouco atractivos

Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) is considering suspending courses in its portfolio, which are taught in the after-work period, which are in low demand, said the rector, Manuel Guilherme Júnior.

"There has been little demand for courses recently. This has been the case, in particular, with the after-school Library Science and Finance courses," he said, on the sidelines of the EMU Annual Meeting and the presentation of the EMU Annual Report for 2023.

The rector of Mozambique's largest higher education institution said that he was looking into the possibility of reformulating the courses in line with market demand. "It may be that somehow we need to rethink the very structure of the courses".

Manuel Guilherme Júnior suspects that the low take-up of some courses is due to market saturation.

UEM's number of undergraduate students fell by 11%, from 25,485 in 2022 to 22,753 in 2024.

However, it notes that most of the courses taught at EMU are in high demand (source: STV)
