The Director General for Africa of the European External Action Service and Head of the European Union (EU) delegation, Rita Laranjinha, said today (21) in Maputo that the European Union (EU) reiterates its commitment to supporting development projects in Mozambique.
"The European Union is working with Mozambique to improve the lives of the Mozambican population, and we realize that this is the urgent need of the moment," said the head of the EU delegation minutes after the end of a meeting with the Coordinator of the Office of Reforms and Strategic Projects at the Presidency of the Republic, João Machatine.
He stressed the importance of aligning EU projects with the priorities defined by the Office of Reforms and Strategic Projects of the Mozambican Presidency.
"It was very positive to hear from the Coordinator a clear statement on the importance of working to improve the well-being of the people of Mozambique, which is the objective of the European Union," he said.
The various development projects include education, energy, electoral processes and the functioning of the Mozambican parliament, among others.
"It's a first conversation that I'm having today (21), to get a full and clear idea of what the objectives of all Mozambicans are in this new period," said Laranjinha.
In addition to the meeting with Machatine, Laranjinha is due to hold meetings with the Mozambican Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, political parties and civil society in order to obtain a broad view of the country's needs and challenges.
It should be noted that the European Union is the largest investor in Mozambique.
