The president of the Supreme Court (TS), Adelino Muchanga, this week called for greater international and regional cooperation to prevent and combat terrorism and drug trafficking, stressing that Mozambique has recently seen an increase in these crimes.
"There are indications of a connection between terrorist activities and other forms of organized crime, such as drug trafficking. International and regional cooperation must be strengthened, as well as the conclusion of agreements establishing mutual assistance mechanisms for the controlled surrender and extradition of criminals," said Adelino Muchanga, quoted in a publication from the AIM.
Speaking during an event in Maputo, Muchanga said there were still challenges for all the courts to play their part, taking measures that contribute to general and special prevention, taking into account the country's geographical situation, socio-economic affinities and the global nature of crime.
"We must know the legislation in force in our country, as well as the doctrine of jurisprudence and the normative discipline of countries with the same challenges as ours, such as Brazil, Portugal and South Africa," he said.
