A few days ago, the Maputo City Court sentenced three defendants to 30 years in prison for their involvement in the kidnapping of a 56-year-old Mozambican citizen.

According to a NewsIn its ruling on this case, which took place in July 2023, the court fined the co-defendants Nelson Tamele, Jerónimo Bila and Joana Maria Macuácua two years at the rate of five minimum wages, three million meticais in compensation for the crimes of kidnapping, criminal association, possession of prohibited weapons and damage.

The assets of the convicts, namely three vehicles, five cell phones and a firearm, found in the possession of the convicts, were also declared forfeited to the state.

The events, whose criminal case number is 108/GCCCOT/2023, took place on July 20, 2023, in the city of Maputo, where the defendants kidnapped citizen Manuel Manoj Jasvantilal.

The victim had been held captive in a house in the Malhampsene district, in the municipality of Matola, from where she was rescued on July 25, 2023 by members of SERNIC, who arrested the three perpetrators.
