The Maputo City Administrative Court (TA) has set a deadline of four years for the total closure of the Hulene dump, on the grounds of environmental and public health risks.
According to a Sunday newspaperIn Case 45/2024-CA, which cites a ruling dated August 14, 2024, the panel of judges of that court upheld the Public Prosecutor's request to order the City Council to close the dump.
In its allegations, the body states, among other things, that "the dump poses a danger to public health and is in no condition to continue operating".
In this regard, João Munguambe, the Councillor for Health at Maputo City Council, assured that work is underway to this end, and also assured that "if there are no constraints, it will be possible to comply with the measure set by the TA".
