The Portuguese athletics coach, Alberto Lário, must pay a fine of 1.5 million meticais for having stayed in Mozambique illegally.
Even if the technician pays the amount immediately and in full he is forced to return to Portugal where he must begin the process of regularization of his stay in Mozambique, according to television channel STV, which says a source close to the process.
Alberto Lário has been in Mozambique for six years. He arrived in the country to train Mozambican athletes in athletics. He recently criticized the management of the Continuadores Park in the country's capital, Maputo, for allowing events to take place inside the training track. Days after the public criticism, his irregular stay in Mozambique was triggered. The press reported that the situation had been made known to the Mozambican authorities through the General Manager of the Continuadores Park. In an interview, the manager of the Park said that the venue should be capitalized by performing other activities other than sports.
The technician, who was born in Mozambique but has only Portuguese nationality, has been detained since Wednesday (20) at the 18th police station of the Republic of Mozambique in the city of Maputo, but for having contracted covid-19, supposedly, in the prison compound, he is currently hospitalized in a health unit in the capital.
