The Provincial Committee of the Frelimo party in Zambézia, central Mozambique, has reinstated Caifadine Manasse, the current Minister of Youth and Sport, after removing him about two years ago, following accusations of drug trafficking.
The decision to reintegrate was taken this Saturday in Quelimane, the provincial capital, at an extraordinary session with a single agenda item: Appreciation and approval of the proposal to reintegrate Caifadine Manasse, a member of the Frelimo Party's Provincial Committee in Zambézia.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy head of the Central Assistance brigade for Zambézia province, José Pacheco, said that Caifadine Manasse's reinstatement aims to improve internal cohesion within the party.
"We are here because of the need and interest to consolidate internal cohesion, we are here because united and cohesive we will be in a better position to guarantee peace and stability," said Pacheco, quoted by the national public broadcaster, RM.
In order to safeguard his "good name and image tarnished by slander", the former party spokesman and member of the Assembly of the Republic (AR), the parliament for the Zambézia constituency, filed a criminal case against his colleagues in 2023.
Manasse said at the time that he had been the victim of a "cabal" by 26 party colleagues, mainly MPs, and that the complaint was aimed at taking them to court.
He has also served as Frelimo's Secretary for Mobilization, Organization and Propaganda. (Text: AIM)
