Trans African Concessions (TRAC), the concessionaire of National Road Number Four (EN4), which connects the country to neighboring South Africa, has pledged to invest around 5.5 billion Meticais to rehabilitate the stretch between Ressano Garcia, in the Moamba district, and Tchumene, in Matola.
The work, which should have started last year, is scheduled to begin next February, over a length of 66 km, according to a note from TRAC to which MZNews has had access.
In addition to the significant improvement in traffic conditions on the highway, the investment will have a direct impact on job creation for the surrounding population, said company representative Fenias Mazive in a press statement on Thursday.
"We have a huge project, worth around 5.5 billion Meticais. It should have started in November, but due to the stoppages we had, it was postponed, and we hope it will start in February," said Mazive.
According to the source, the intervention "is part of the agreements signed in 1997 as part of the BOT (Built Operate Transfer) project, in which the concessionaire seeks financing, designs the infrastructure to be built, carries out the operations, recovers the amounts invested and then returns the same investment to the grantor, which in this case is the Mozambican government".
"We also hope, during this rehabilitation period, to employ the youth of Moamba and Ressano Garcia, which is where the work will take place," he said.
