The provincial government of Tete, in central Mozambique, has just ordered a ban on the movement of cattle from the districts of Chifunde, Marávia and Zumbo to the rest of the province, due to an outbreak of bovine tuberculosis in neighboring Zambia.
According to sources quoted by Radio MozambiqueThe action aims to safeguard animal health, as the districts share an extensive border with the Republic of Zambia, where the disease has already caused the death of some animals.
Alongside the ban on movement, the veterinary authorities are taking samples from the corrals located on the border line in order to monitor the situation at provincial level.
In the same publication, the directors of economic activities in the districts of Chifunde and Maravia assure that there is still no record of bovine tuberculosis in the region.
