Rwandan troops reportedly bombed an Islamic State stronghold in the Mucojo district of Cabo Delgado province on Thursday. There are fears that the anti-terrorist offensive took the lives of civilians and reduced the town to ruins.
A witness quoted by ZitamarHe said that "the town is in ashes because of the bombing". The same source points to the fact that it was an incursion "without discrimination between civilians and terrorists". There is talk of civilian and terrorist deaths. There is still no confirmation of civilian deaths.
According to the publication, this is the second offensive by the Rwandan Defense Force. The first took place on July 30.
O portal reports that several civilians have fled to the town of Macomia, which has seen the return of displaced people for a year now.
The insurgents have occupied Mucojo and much of the coast from Macomia to Quiterajo since February, using it as one of their main bases to launch attacks in the rest of Macomia district, as well as in the districts of Quissanga and Mocímboa da Praia.
