The National Union of Portuguese Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) is holding an emergency general meeting today to discuss a proposal from TAP, as part of negotiations to address the demands of these professionals.
"The Board of the General Assembly has scheduled an AGM [general meeting] for the 29th, at 09:00, at the Order of Certified Accountants," the union said in a statement to members, to which Lusa had access.
It should be remembered that this union held a strike by TAP crew members on December 8 and 9, which led the airline to cancel 360 flights in advance and had a total estimated impact of eight million euros.
The union also approved at least five more days of strike action until January 31.
TAP management and the SNPVAC have been meeting in negotiations, following the union's demands.
"In view of the current scenario of negotiations still underway, the [union] leadership has asked the Bureau to schedule an emergency general meeting as soon as possible, undertaking to send TAP's proposal to the Bureau 48 hours before the meeting, so that the Bureau can send it to all members in good time, so that everyone can analyze the document beforehand," the SNPVAC said in a statement sent to members.
TAP's CEO, Christine Ourmières-Widener, told journalists on December 19 that negotiations were on the right track and that she believed it would be possible to avoid more days of strikes.
"Although we don't follow the enthusiasm of the current CEO [executive president], the truth is that the meetings have taken place on the basis of dialogue, with the normal advances and setbacks of these negotiations," said the union.
The aim of the emergency general meeting is to provide clarification on TAP's proposal and the ongoing negotiations, "so that the members - sovereign in their decisions - can decide in an informed and conscientious manner", the union said.
