TAP: Crew members analyze company's proposal today to avoid a strike at the end of the month

TAP: Tripulantes analisam hoje proposta da empresa para evitar greve no fim do mês

The National Union of Portuguese Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) is holding an emergency general meeting today to analyze a proposal presented by the Portuguese carrier, TAP, ahead of the strike from the 25th to the 31st of this month.

"At the request of the Board, [...] I call on the members of TAP - Transportes Aéreos Portugueses, SA, to meet in an emergency general meeting on January 19, at 10:00 local time, at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel," reads a note sent last week to SNPVAC members, to which Lusa had access.

According to the same letter, the only item on the agenda for the meeting will be the "presentation, discussion and vote on the proposal presented by TAP", as part of the negotiations for a new company agreement, which has caused friction between the company and the union.

It should be remembered that this union held a strike by TAP crew members on December 8 and 9, which led the airline to cancel 360 flights in advance and had a total estimated impact of eight million euros.

SNVPAC announced on January 9 that it will go ahead with a strike notice at TAP for seven days between January 25 and 31, according to a note sent to members.

TAP said it respects and regrets the SNPVAC's decision to go on strike this month and assured that it is doing everything it can to reach an agreement.

On December 29, the SNPVAC general assembly rejected TAP's proposal, maintaining its intention to hold five days of strikes until January 31, a union source told Lusa at the time.

As a result, the company's management proposal was rejected with 615 votes against, six in favor and one abstention, maintaining the possibility of going ahead with a five-day strike until January 31, as had been decided at the last SNPVAC assembly.
