Suspension of USAID funds may have violated US constitution, judge blocks DOGE

Suspensão de fundos da USAID pode ter violado a constituição dos EUA, e juiz bloqueia DOGE

The federal judge of the United States of America (USA), Theodore D. Chuang, has ordered the dismantling of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to be blocked indefinitely.

The measure stems from the possibility that the suspension of USAID funds by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is in conflict with the US constitution.

"The court concludes that defendants' unilateral actions to close USAID likely violated the United States Constitution," said Judge Theodore D. Chuang of the U.S. District Court in Maryland.

The decision was made in response to a lawsuit filed by current and former employees, including a ban on DOGE employees sharing confidential USAID information.

This may be linked to the fact that the head of DOGE, Elon Musk, is not exactly a US government official, as he acts as an advisor and does not receive a salary from the state, so his department does not have the autonomy to suspend funding.
