The Supreme Court (SC) and the Constitutional Council (CC) have been asked to intervene in the revision of the Electoral Law that is secretly taking place between the three parties with seats in parliament.
The election bulletin of the Center for Public Integrity (CIP) states that Frelimo, Renamo and MDM discussed 74 articles. However, there was only consensus on 19 articles. Among other things, the parties disagree on the powers of the district courts to annul elections or not.
The TS, represented by a judge-counselor, and the CC, represented by the presiding judge, Lúcia Ribeiro, were invited to give their opinions on the non-consensual articles in separate sessions today.
The Working Group for the Revision of Electoral Legislation is chaired by Ana Rita Sithole, the vice-chair is Feliz Sílvia, both from Frelimo. António Muchanga, from Renamo, is the rapporteur.
