The number of schools and classrooms affected by the passage of Cyclone Jude through Mozambique has risen to 263 and 711 respectively, affecting 94,476 pupils and 1,222 teachers, according to figures presented yesterday (18) by the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD)..

According to the INGD, the death toll remains at 16, although the number of people affected and families has risen to 384,877 and 82,780 respectively.

"The cyclone totally and partially destroyed 88,005 houses, flooded another 1,854 and affected 144 buildings of worship," reads the INGD document, which now also includes the provinces of Tete and Manica, Zambézia, Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado.

In addition, the number of people injured by Cyclone Jude has risen to 135, bringing the number of people affected to over 384,000.
