MZNews caught the moment when the Attorney General's Office (PGR) closed down around five used car sales yards in Maputo city earlier this afternoon.
This is stands located on Avenida Joaquim Chissano, whose owners are citizens of foreign origin.
A worker at one of the parks who witnessed the operations said that the authorities went to the parks early on Thursday afternoon. In one of the establishments, four individuals of foreign origin were arrested, whose names could not be ascertained. An owner and his three friends were taken to the PGR. These three arrived at the park just as the PGR was taking action. "And because they all come from the same background, they are thought to be involved in the business of selling cars."
It is also known that there were higher orders to take the owners of one of the parks, but this did not happen. In the meantime, they have been "summoned" to appear at the PGR tomorrow Friday (15), including the more than 10 workers who had to shut down early today.
Without recording an interview, a PGR source at the scene assured MZNews that today's car park closure operations are part of Operation Stop Money Laundering (Stop BC).
Various unspecified materials were seized in the parks, including documents from some vehicles. It is not known whether any money was seized.
