Sporting rejects offer of 15 million euros for Geny Catamo's transfer

Sporting rejeita proposta de 15 milhões de euros para transferência de Geny Catamo

In the last few days, Sporting Clube de Portugal has reportedly rejected a concrete offer of around 15 million euros from Saudi Arabia for the acquisition of Mozambican Geny Catamo.

According to Monday's edition of A Bola newspaperThe SAD board led by Frederico Varandas rejected an offer from a Saudi Arabian club in the current off-season, setting the bar at 25 million euros to transfer the pass of the Mozambican winger, and would still have to reach an agreement with Amora and the Black Bulls Academy in Mozambique to complete the deal.

The same publication also reports that the Spanish side from Valencia had previously approached the Alvalade offices for a slightly lower figure, in the region of 12 million euros, but received the same response.

It's worth remembering that a year ago the Mozambican international's ticket, according to the specialist website Transfermarkt, was valued at 600,000 euros after unsuccessful loans to Vitória de Guimarães and Marítimo.

However, in one season everything changed, with the successful adaptation to the wing of midfield with more defensive duties - he was a winger from the start - with 41 appearances in 2023/2024, six goals scored (two of them crucial against eternal rivals Benfica) and five assists made.

In the season already underway, he has been a starter in all four matches so far, with the nuance that, given the injury to Nuno Santos and the rise of the boy Geovany Quenda, he has changed lanes from right to left, as he is left-footed from the start.

These figures have pushed the valuation of 24-year-old Geny Catamo's pass up to 10 million euros, but taking into account that the contract renewal that took place in December 2023 extended the validity of the contract to June 2028 and the value of the termination clause rose to 60 million euros, the proposed values are still well below what was mentioned, for a player who is Rúben Amorim's firm bet.
