The Fishing Port of Beira, in Sofala, registered a reduction in fish processing in 14%, compared to the same period last year, said the official source of the Port.
According to António Remédio, director of the Port of Beira, the late start of the fishing activity, combined with the effects of climate change are part of the main causes of the recorded drop.
Data advanced by Porto indicate that the infrastructure processed, in the first six months of this year, about six thousand tons of various fish, a volume that represents more than half of the annual plan, which points to about nine thousand and five hundred tons.
It should be noted that the Beira Fishing Port not only receives and processes fish caught in national waters, but also from some neighboring countries.
Currently, the pier has been extended 188 to 377 meters, allowing for the berthing of 16 industrial fishing vessels simultaneously, up from the previous eight, as well as the handling of domestic and foreign fresh cargo.
