Gondola accident: Experts point to driver's decision-making error as cause of fatal accident

Sinistro em Gondola: Peritos apontam erro de decisão do motorista como a causa do acidente fatídico

A decision error on the part of the driver when maneuvering a semi-truck that took the lives of 23 people has been identified as the cause of the accident that took place on Monday at the Cafumpe Administrative Post in the Gondola district of Manica.

The conclusion, according to Radio MozambiqueThe report, by a group of experts from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, also points to overcrowding of the vehicle and speeding as other factors in the accident.

They claim that the combination of these factors resulted in a loss of vehicle stability.

According to Alcides Macucule, Director of the Inspection and Safety Division at the National Road Transport Institute, a detailed report on the causes and factors of the accident is still to be produced.

The document is due to be published in the next few days and will be used as support material for legal and technical decisions to prevent further accidents.

"There is no doubt whatsoever that what happened here was a decision error on the part of the man himself, who is the driver in this case. Overcrowding is one of the factors that contributed to the vehicle's imbalance, from a technical point of view," he said.
