SERNIC dismantles residence that would be used as captivity for the kidnappings

The National Criminal Investigation Service dismantled this Wednesday, a residence in Maputo, which was being prepared to serve as captivity of another victim of kidnappers.

This is a luxurious residence, located in the Triunfo neighborhood, one of the noble areas of the country's capital.

In connection with the dismantling of the residence, police detained three individuals, two women and one man.

SERNIC says that the kidnappers would have rented the residence in January of this year, for a period of three months, and at the time made a cash payment of six hundred thousand meticais.

The two women in the group claim that they were only hired to clean the residence and that they did not know that it was being used as a captivity.

The third member of the group, known as Julinho, says that he was hired to look for a residence in Maputo, and also claims that he did not know the purpose of the residence.

SERNIC's spokesman in Maputo city, Hilário Lole, says that the three individuals belong to a gang that has been carrying out kidnappings in the country's capital.

The spokesman for the National Criminal Investigation Service warns homeowners to be careful, and not to rent their homes to strangers.
