Social Security collects 271 million meticais in debts

The Maputo City delegation of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) exceeded the goal of collecting the amounts owed. Of the 67 million meticais that were expected, the agents took 271 million meticais to the INSS coffers.

On the other hand, the institution's delegation also exceeded the goal of enrolling companies and workers for the first quarter of the current year. Some 1037 companies and 4293 workers were covered, while the target was 1024 and 2053, respectively.

The positive results, according to the city's delegate, Rui Guimarães, are the result of the awareness actions carried out by this entity in the last two years as well as the forgiveness of fines, in the case of debt collection.

According to Guimarães, one of the INSS' challenges was to cover the largest possible number of self-employed workers who at some point in time have limitations to their registration, due to insufficient or even non-existent identifying documents.

"Even so, we managed to exceed the enrollment goal, because we expected to cover 312 workers, but we enrolled 328, as a result of the awareness campaigns carried out door-to-door and in population centers where this group is found, such as in the markets," he explained.

He added that work is being done to reach people without identification, but they can also contact the INSS for support on how to enroll.

"The biggest challenge is to keep the self-employed paying, because there are cases where, for some reason, they change activity or become unable to continue contributing. That's why we have a sector that monitors the beneficiaries and tries to find out why they stopped paying," he said.
