The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, said yesterday that the tourism sector grew by 12% last year.
"Last year, the sector grew by 12% as a result of everything we lost during the pandemic. At the moment, the occupancy rate is above 80%, aware of some districts that have already reached 100%," said Materula, quoted by the newspaper "O País".
Regarding visa exemptions, a measure that came into force in May this year, the minister spoke of progress and called for a better understanding of the matter.
"We are aware that this work is very important and we are already seeing results, but we need to be trained as a country and as a sector. We are developing some actions at airports to better welcome our tourists," said Eldevina Materula.
Meanwhile, she also said that preparations are already underway for the 9th edition of the Fikani International Tourism Fair, which will take place from November 30 to December 3 at the Mozambique-China Cultural Center in Maputo city.
