At least one million farmers in the central and southern regions of the country have had their production for the current season jeopardized by adverse weather conditions since the start of the first season.
According to the president of the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD), Luísa Meque, who was speaking yesterday, Thursday (09) in Inhambane, the situation is the result of the weather, which has been characterized by a mixture of periods of lack of rain and intense heat, interspersed with torrential rain that has caused flooding and has been detrimental to thousands of producers.
According to that leader, quoted by Terra MagazineIn order to mitigate the rain shortage situation, INGD and partners are implementing anticipatory actions in nine arid districts in the provinces of Gaza, Tete and Sofala, consisting of contingency measures for producers to deal with extreme factors.
"Among the measures underway to promote climate resilience are the construction of 20 multi-functional boreholes and 15 excavated reservoirs for water retention and conservation in ten districts of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane," she concluded.
