The Southern African Development Community and the East African Community (SADC) have proposed a joint summit in order to resolve the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, a proposal that Kigali says it accepts, although no date has been set for this meeting.
In order for these negotiations to reach a successful conclusion, Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda, quoted by RFIThe SADC delegation, SAMIDRC, is calling for the withdrawal of the SADC military mission from North Quivu. This request has been rejected by the SADC countries, which since Sunday alone have already suffered 16 military casualties in the area as a result of M23 attacks supported by Rwandan soldiers.
With almost 800 deaths in a week of conflict and thousands wounded, especially in the city of Goma, international organizations are calling for urgent humanitarian aid for the population and warning of the danger of the spread of disease due to the precarious sanitary situation, with the bodies of dead combatants abandoned in the different districts of the city.
