REVIMO quer retomar cobrança de tarifas de portagem na segunda-feira

Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO) intends to resume collecting toll fees on all tolls under its management from next Monday (27).

A company source quoted by Radio Mozambique said today that preparations were already underway to resume collection.

It should be remembered that REVIMO was forced to suspend the collection of tolls due to acts of vandalism during the post-election protests.

Former presidential candidate and "Shadow Government President" Venâncio Mondlane, who led the demonstrations, has "decreed" that tolls throughout the country will be suspended until April 27, as part of the recently announced "100-day governance measures".

Last week, without informing users, TRAC tried to start charging tolls at the Maputo Toll (EN4), but motorists protested the measure, and until this Wednesday, traffic through the tolls in Mozambique remained "free".

Without commenting on the political aspect involved here, I would like to give my opinion on the relevance of erecting this toll at the entrance to Maputo and Matola. On normal days, this place is characterized by dense traffic congestion at rush hour, with queues of vehicles reaching from the brigade area to the Fomento intersection. It's a real nightmare. Why not move it to, say, Tchumene? That would reduce congestion and the anger of motorists.

The Maputo-Matola toll should remain canceled, because it has always harmed the residents of Matola, Liberbade, Belo Horizonte, Boane, who are the main users. Move the toll to Tchumene, for example.

I think it's fair to resume paying the Maputo/Matola and Moamba tolls, because it's being run by a company that pays taxes and salaries to its employees, so what if it doesn't collect the money to cover its expenses?

In principle, the EN4 should have one toll, even if it were at the Moamba junction or in the Pessene area. I don't see the need for the Moamba toll, it's an injustice to the people of Moamba, since it's not even 50 km from the border of Ressano, in fact, Ressano is Moamba.
In the past, we were being robbed by TRAC and its Mozambican governing CONSORTIUMS. TRAC's tolls have made a lot of money since they were installed, but looking at the situation of the Mozambican state today, the tax amounts have not been properly channeled to the right place (the state coffer).

The REVIMO tolls are a rip-off, a scam. It makes no sense for there to be countless tolls within the same city. Bearing in mind that tolls should always be installed on the borders of provinces, I would say that they should be a kind of border from one province to another. They should disappear altogether and be well designed. I'm ashamed of some members of the government when they tell Mozambique, Africa and the whole world that tolls should be resumed in order to pay salaries to civil servants.
It's a shame to hear that coming from the mouth of a government official.

The tolls must not be paid for 100 days and the condition for resuming payment must be the reform of their concessions: 1 toll at each exit and entrance to the province;
