Renamo marches in Maputo city in protest against electoral fraud

Renamo marcha na cidade de Maputo em protesto contra fraude eleitoral

A crowd of young people accompanied Renamo's announced march down the avenues of Maputo city. The march started a few hours late, and rapper Azagaia's songs "A Marcha" and "Povo no Poder" were playing in the background.

It is taking place in protest against alleged attempts at electoral fraud in the Maputo municipality, where the party is represented by the front-runner, Venâncio Mondlane.

Sarcastically, the supporters also sang the Frelimo 'song' "no matter what", and instead of the name of their comrades' party, they said "no matter what, Renamo has already won". And, loud and clear, they said, in the local language, "they are thieves".

Hundreds of young people follow Venâncio as he goes from market to market, stopping to give a speech. He has already been to the Estrela Vermelha informal market, and is now at the Xipamanine market.

Renamo and its candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, claimed victory in the city of Maputo, with 53% of the votes. The data is from a parallel count.

The National Electoral Commission has not yet released the results of the elections, and in a statement announced a conference to that effect today at 4pm at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Center.
