Renamo's National Council, which was scheduled to take place on March 7 and 8 in Vilankulo, Inhambane province, has been postponed "for weighty reasons", as announced by the political group's spokesman, Marcial Macome, at a press conference.
The convening of the National Council was, in part, a response to the pressure exerted by the former guerrillas who closed down the national headquarters, as well as the provincial delegations. They are demanding the immediate "fall" of Ossufo Momade, whom they consider to be behind the electoral debacle that left Renamo as the third largest parliamentary force.
Recently, a group of former guerrillas, meeting in Nampula, reiterated their desire to see Momade removed from leadership.
However, according to a TV MiramarMacome did not disclose the agenda for Renamo's National Council, which could be held later this year at an uncertain date.
On the other hand, Renamo criticized recent comments by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, about instability in the country and the slight reduction in fuel prices.
