Renamo, the largest opposition party in Mozambique, accuses the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), a civil society organization, of denigrating the image of its leader, Ossufo Momade.
According to Renamo, the CDD, headed by its respective president Adriano Nuvunga, has been constantly defaming and insulting Renamo and its presidential candidate, Ossufo Momade, for the elections next week, on the 9th.
The accusations were made by Renamo's political delegate in Maputo city, Domingos Gundana, at a press conference held yesterday, Tuesday (01), in Maputo, the aim of which was to announce the party's position on the electoral campaign and express its dissatisfaction with the speeches made by social activist Adriano Nuvunga and president of the CDD.
"There are attacks that he has been making for a long time... the month of September has been devastating in the quest to denigrate the image and good name of the leader of Renamo by attacking him and his family," said Domingos Gundana, in a publication of the AIMHe stressed that his party will sue the CDD and its president to prove their allegations in court.
According to Gundana, the CDD said via social media that the celebration of Momade's birthday was paid for by the head of state and claimed that there was sufficient evidence that Momade and his family were involved with figures linked to Frelimo, the ruling party.
"We want to say that he who is silent consents and, this time, Renamo is not going to be silent, we are going to file a criminal complaint so that Mr. Nuvunga and the CDD can prove by A plus B when and how the Renamo leader would have negotiated for these upcoming elections," said the political delegate from Partridge.
He added that "in the same way as the other slanders that have come to light, he is going to prove to us how much money, how and where the money that paid for the birthday that he says was paid for by the current Head of State came from".
Gundana explains that the anniversary was paid for by his family and the deputies of this political grouping for the Maputo city constituency.
The source went on to call on civil society organizations to serve the interests of civil society and not to attack officially registered political parties.
