Meta's social networks are not working in Mozambique

Redes socias da Meta não estão a funcionar em Moçambique

Meta's social networks - Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram - have been down since the early hours of Thursday.

The causes of the apparent blocking of these applications, popularly considered to be the most used for exchanging information in real time, are unknown.

Something similar happened last week when, "for no apparent reason" or justification, three of the country's mobile operators interrupted internet services via mobile data. It wasn't the first time, even during the election period. The operators then provided unlimited data to their customers.

The blockade took place on a day when the presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, was to broadcast live on his Facebook page to announce the third phase of the general strike against alleged electoral fraud in the October 9 elections.

On the following live, he warned that his supporters are prepared to vandalize the mobile operators' communication antennas, which are scattered around the country, on terraces and in the backyards of private properties.

Nevertheless, a few days later, the start of the third phase of the general strike was announced to begin today, October 31, and end on November 7.

To a large extent, the country is aware of the progress of the killings through Meta's social networks, and it's enough to see that the "mainstream press" uses amateur videos to report some incidents.

Tik tok and YouTube work normally.

It should be noted that the internet works, but not under the usual conditions.
