Fews Network: "Lack of support continues to limit humanitarian food aid to displaced people"

The Famine Early Warning Network (Fews) believes that lack of support continues to limit humanitarian assistance to displaced people in Cabo Delgado.

In its latest report, the organization reveals that due to lack of resources, the World Food Programme (WFP) continues to provide half-yearly rations equivalent to 39% of each person's daily energy, with a possibility that aid at 100% will resume in January.

"Most IDPs are still unable to produce their own food and rely on humanitarian aid and support from host communities for food," the body said in support of actions by government and humanitarian agencies.

The armed conflict in Cabo Delgado has already caused more than 3100 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project, and more than 817,000 displaced people, according to the authorities.

The province is rich in natural gas, but has been terrorized since 2017 by armed rebels, with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
