Cabo Delgado's reconstruction "dependent" on USAID

Reconstrução de Cabo Delgado “dependente” da USAID

The continuity of the Reconstruction and Resilience Plan for the destroyed infrastructure in Cabo Delgado province depends on whether or not new funding is released by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

"With regard to USAID, this is an issue that is on the agenda. It will certainly make a statement, we continue to hope that these amounts will be allocated until there is information to the contrary. For the time being, we continue to thank USAID, we continue to count on their efforts until this imbroglio around it is clarified," said the President of the Executive Board of the Northern Integrated Development Agency (ADIN) in an interview with the newspaper Radio Mozambique.

USAID is providing around 4.5 million dollars for various projects, but, he warned, there are conditions for moving forward without USAID's support, as there are other cooperation partners.

"But with USAID it would be better. It's a great partner for Mozambique, it's a partner for Cabo Delgado," acknowledged Jacinto Loureiro.

In this sense, since there has been no formal information about the suspension of specific support for Cabo Delgado, he said that the government will continue with USAID's support.

On January 20, US President Donald Trump ordered the temporary suspension, with immediate effect, of almost all US foreign assistance around the world for a period of 90 days.
