Two teenagers, a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, are in police custody in the city of Matola for faking a kidnapping. According to Notícias, the minors faked the girl's abduction in order to extort 70,000 meticais from her mother.

The minors are classmates and allegedly orchestrated the kidnapping about two weeks ago, having carried out the plan on Tuesday (13), according to the spokesman for the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), Henriques Mendes.

"We received a complaint from the girl's mother, who had pretended to be missing in captivity. We made inquiries and found out that it was a simulation to get the mother's attention and amass 70,000 meticais," said Mendes.

As they are minors, they will not be arrested, but the matter has already been referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

SERNIC urges young people and adolescents not to go down these paths to get money, otherwise they will find themselves in conflict with the law.
