To benefit Frelimo: Almost 300,000 Zimbabweans voted illegally in Mozambican elections, SAHRL denounces

The Mozambican elections in neighboring Zimbabwe were allegedly flawed by the fact that 296,519 Zimbabwean citizens were allowed to vote in violation of electoral rules.

 The complaint comes from Southern Africa Human Rights Lawyers (SAHRL) and is contained in the report Zimbabwe's Interference With the 2024 Mozambique Harmonized Elections, published last week.

According to the complaint, the voters were mobilized by the country's president Emerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF party. The idea, as the local media writeswas to benefit Frelimo.

The document by the High Commissioner of Human Rights Lawyers of Southern Africa, Professor Talent Rusere, accuses Mnangagwa's party of having appointed at least nine senior officials from the political formation, including cabinet ministers, to monitor the process in the country's provinces.

SAHRL concluded that there were 53,122 Zanu PF supporters who voted at the Duma in Bikita; 36,872 in Murehwa; and 41,213 who voted at the Maud Muzenda Training Center. In Masvingo. Some 76,519 voted in Mutare/Rusape, 69,019 voted in Harare and 19,774 voted in Chegutu. (Image: Zimbabwe Daily)
