Putin threatens to stop exporting energy to Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened Wednesday to suspend all energy shipments to Europe if Brussels moves forward with a proposal to cap the price of Russian gas. This would be the last Western step to deprive the Kremlin of funds to finance the war.

"We will not supply gas, oil, coal, heating oil - we will not supply anything" if this occurs, the Russian president said.

Europe normally imports about 40% of its gas and 30% of its oil from Russia.

The speech came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported "good news" from the front near Kharkiv in the east, saying that some villages had been recaptured, as both sides reported heavy fighting in the region.

Speaking at an economic forum in Russia's Far East, Putin said that his country would not lose the war, i.e. its "special military operation" in Ukraine.

Asked about the progress of the war at the forum in Vladivostok, Putin said, "We have lost nothing and we will lose nothing."
