Protests prevent measures to reduce the country's cost of living - Government

Protestos inviabilizam medidas para reduzir custo de vida no país – Governo

The protests that are taking place across the country, for anything but nothing, are preventing the Executive from moving forward with assertive measures aimed at reducing the cost of living, the spokesman for the Council of Ministers, Inocêncio Impissa, said yesterday.

"Today we can't carry out certain activities because we ourselves have chosen to demonstrate and destroy everything. We decide to stop and loot the goods of an individual who is transporting fish to put at the disposal of a store, a warehouse," he said.

For the Minister for State Administration and the Civil Service, the stance adopted by society will not contribute to the socio-economic advances that are to be achieved.

"Society should think about these issues and see how we can move towards development. We're all distressed, young people aren't doing very well, but we need to fight together to create more companies, more possibilities, more training," he acknowledged.

According to Impissa, as long as vandalizations gain ground, the measures that the current government intends to implement will have no effect.

Recently, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, said that the executive is evaluating the possibility of removing Value Added Tax from basic products and reducing fuel import taxes. Multilateral talks are also underway to evaluate a mechanism for collecting tolls.
