Protests cause losses of 200 million Meticais to AdRMM

Protestos causam prejuízos de 200 milhões de Meticais à AdRMM

The company Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo (AdRMM) claims to have suffered a loss of around 200 million Meticais as a result of its customers refusing to pay for services as part of the post-election protests called by former electoral candidate Venâncio Mondlane.

The company claims that the vandalizations have compromised the normal supply of the precious liquid, according to a statement quoted by "O Pais."

The document mentions the destruction of stores, water pipes, electrical panels, walls and office materials, which generated significant financial losses, totaling approximately 200 million Meticais.

"The vandalization of public property affects not only the functioning of infrastructure, but also public health and social development," the document states.

Recently, Venâncio Mondlane declared the non-payment of public services, especially water supplied by the company Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo, which, according to AdRMM, directly compromises the quality and continuity of the drinking water supply, exposing communities to the risk of disease and delaying investment in projects to expand and rehabilitate the network.

"In addition, recovering the damage requires resources that could be allocated to improving and expanding services, further delaying efforts to provide drinking water to areas without access to the service," the document reads.

In this sense, the institution is reinforcing the need to protect the infrastructure of the entire water supply chain.

The losses incurred by the company Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo could increase, since Mondlane's decree urging his supporters not to pay for services for a period of three months.
