There are owners of gas stations in Mozambique who use the business to launder money and finance terrorism in Cabo Delgado province, according to the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
These fuel pump owners are in Sofala province, according to Nyusi, who said he has "information of people [the businessmen] who use these means to subsidize terrorism."
According to the portal 'Sapo', Filipe Nyusi was speaking during a meeting with the Executive Council and Representation of the State in the province of Sofala. And, at the time, the PR said that some of these people are at large.
"When we went looking for them, they were gone. They owned some pumps [gas stations]," the head of state stressed.
In this sense, Nyusi called on the Tax Authority and the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy to tighten the siege during the inspection.
"You guys have to control that. The proliferation [of businesses is only welcome] if [it's] for development. But if it is for money laundering, no. Yes, move money, but in a legal way," said the President, without giving further details on the subject.
