Today, the Association of United and Solidarity Health Professionals of Mozambique (APSUSM) suspended the start of a general strike in order to allow room for dialog with the government.
According to the president of APSUSM, Anselmo Muchave, the Executive has requested a meeting with the class next Thursday. But depending on the talks, the strike could go ahead immediately afterwards.
"The aim of calling off the strike is to make room for dialog, since the government has sent us an invitation for April 3, 2025. In this context, health professionals favor dialogue as a possible solution and a promotion of good understanding between the Mozambican people and the associations," he explained.
He clarified that the idea of suspending the strike was really to avoid having to suspend it while the dialog with the government was going on. It was therefore decided to postpone the strike and allow the government to make its proposals for resolving the concerns.
He said that there are situations of lack of salaries, even for those in the sector who receive the minimum wage, and patients today in health units who do not have adequate food and medical care.
"We want the government to tell us how long we're going to deal with the problem of food in the health units and the lack of medicines," he said.
