Electoral process in Mocímboa da Praia is still a mystery

Processo eleitoral em Mocímboa da Praia ainda é uma incógnita

The president of the provincial electoral commission in Cabo Delgado, Albino Pariela, reiterated yesterday in Pemba, that it is not yet certain whether the electoral process in the municipal town of Mocímboa da Praia will take place or not.

Pariela added that by installing the electoral bodies in the town of Mocímboa da Praia, in the north of the province, conditions are created for the electoral process to take place. The source said that later the National Elections Commission (CNE) will deliberate on how the process will take place, starting with the voter registration.

He made it known that at this moment the district election commission of Mocímboa da Praia is operating in the city of Pemba, the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado, an indication that there will be elections in that part of Cabo Delgado.

Pariela made these statements yesterday in Pemba as part of the inauguration of five presidents of the same number of district election commissions in Pemba, Montepuez, Mocímboa da Praia, Mueda and Chiúre, namely: José Diamantino, Chande Paulo, Anselmo Mijai, Rufino Jeremias and Desidério Zacarias, respectively, heading towards the municipal elections scheduled for October 11, 2023.

Addressing the inductees, Albino Pariela said that the commitment of the presidents of the district election commissions is to respect and enforce the constitution of the Republic, and to fulfill and enforce the deliberations of the National Election Commission in a scrupulous manner.

"We as support organs of the National Elections Commission have several obligations, such as conducting the electoral process transparently, honestly and with exemption, for the exercise of democracy in the Republic of Mozambique and in Cabo Delgado in particular," Pariela said.
