Officers from the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Nampula province are being harassed by strangers, spokeswoman Rosa Chaúque said yesterday.
The strangers come to the agents' homes and physically assault them. At least nine officers have already been assaulted. Three are currently receiving treatment at Nampula Central Hospital.
According to Chaúque, PRM agents were beaten up in the districts of Mecubúri, Nacala, Mogincual, Mogovolas, Murrupula and Nampula.
She said that steps were being taken to identify the perpetrators of the attacks.
"In addition to the assault on our officers, their homes have also been vandalized by the protesters, but these evil actions are a concern for everyone because they impede public order and security," he said.
