The President of the Republic demands that higher education institutions train staff capable of responding to society's concerns.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the Rector and Vice-Rectors of the Pedagogical University of Maputo, Filipe Nyusi argued that it is only with this training that universities can contribute to the country's socio-economic development.
"Higher education that is relevant to our needs, that promotes inclusion, equity, equality, ethics, a culture of work, peace and love of country, among other values," he said.
Nyusi challenged the inductees to boost training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as they are under-represented in the other areas taught in higher education in Mozambique.
"Through the training of teachers and education managers, UP-Maputo is responsible for helping the national education system, from basic education to higher education, to promote a greater number of scientifically and pedagogically qualified teachers," said Nyusi, in a UP-Maputo publication. AIM.
Another challenge for UP-Maputo's leaders is the need to make science teaching exciting and attractive to students.
"At this very moment, the country is making science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) a priority in the formation of human capital," he said.
He called on the management of UP-Maputo to increase research and innovation activities, setting an example for teachers to become a reference for transformation and educational innovation in primary and secondary schools.
